Front ride height sensor temporary removal?
Hi,
I'm in the process of replacing the upper control arms on my 2005. On the driver's side according to manual I have to temporarily remove the height sensor from yhe lower control arm. Is there a way to do this without cutting the metal strap holding it to the control arm? Without changing adjustment settings? Will disconnecting it electrically be suffice? Can the rubber just be pulled off over the post that is strapped to the control arm?
Hi, Deepstuff, I don’t know why the book would say to remove the suspension sensor if you are only replacing the upper control arms (which I assume are the upper wishbones at the top of the suspension tower). Perhaps they say to do this so you can press down on the lower control arm to give you enough room to remove the air spring? I changed my air springs without removing the suspension sensors. It was a bit awkward due to the space constraints but it is doable. Regardless, if you do need to remove the suspension sensors for suspension work, my recommendation would be to unfasten the metal clip around the LCA - it is also a bit awkward but can be done with long nose pliers in one hand and a flat blade screwdriver in the other. When you put the clip back on, note the two slightly raised areas on the LCA that the clip sits between - it has to go back in between those raised points. While changing my suspension out I accidentally caught one of the sensors with a wrench, and it pulled the metal connecting piece (between the top and bottom rubber or plastic bits) out of the top rubber or plastic bit. Happily, it just pushed back in and the car raised up to and maintained the correct ride height after all was done, so no harm seemed to come from that accidental ‘delinkage’. Wouldn’t recommend that option though
