Exclamation The Mystery of Fuel Injectors

Hello all,

I’m replacing the fuel injectors on my 2007 XJ8 4.2 NA and have run into some confusion. The injectors currently fitted to the car differ from the OEM injectors I recently purchased (see photos).

The original injectors are marked FoMoCo 6R83-AC, while the replacements are marked Ford/Denso 2W93-AA. Both appear to be genuine, but they are clearly different designs.

I don’t have complete service history, so it’s possible the car was fitted with earlier injectors at some point. Before proceeding, I’d like to confirm:
  • which injector part number is correct for a 2007 MY XJ8, and
  • whether installing the later 2W93-AA injectors is appropriate, or if I should retain/refurbish the existing ones.
Any advice from those familiar with X350/X358 injector changes would be much appreciated.

Thank you for you time and effort in advance.

I can only answer in generalities, but here goes.................

You want to have any replacement fuel injector be the same rated flow rate as the OE injector.

A small deviation in flow rate might be able to be compensated for in the PCM, but in general they should be the same flow rate

The 6R83 injector is rated at 255cc/min at 3 bar, while the other is rated at 212cc/min - about 20% smaller flow.

Your PCM fuel trims might be able to handle this, but would likely set a code. You also run the risk of running out of injector duty cycle at full power with the smaller injector.

If it were me, I'd find an injector with the same rated flow as the ones you've removed

As an additional thought..............

I've had good luck refurbishing existing injectors. Where I live, there's several specialist that will take your injectors, soak them in an ultrasonic cleaner bath, then cycle them while flushing with a cleaning fluid and fit them with new caps, filters and o-rings.

I always ask that they 'match flow' the injectors so they are all within a few cc/min of each other. It costs a little more but the engines always seem to run a little smoother

The problem I see that the pat numbers you state are Ford part numbers.

The Jaguar part numbers are different, and only those are stated here in the Jaguar parts catalogue:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

Maybe youcan find a corresponding Ford part number for the Jauar part numbers.

Apart from this, I would also go for the refurbishment option as stated above.

Best regards,

Thomas
