Default Parking Brake Calibration.

2004 VDP

replaced both parking brake cables as they were chaffed.

initially parking brake stuck on

Managed to clear codes

now no parking brake but have parking brake fault on display.

I think it needs a recal, but it refuses to

question........to recap,,,,,,do I need to back the pistons back as far as they will go.....and then recal........before I start stripping everything down......is that what the problem is.......

or am I missing something.........mechanic thinks actuator motor may be binding up........but its a bitch to get to......and friggin expensive........can only find ones on eBay.......2nd hand.......which I don't trust.......and Jag want nearly 600 bucks.......

anyone got any ideas........

The best way to get to it IMO is to cut a hole in the spare wheel well and patch it afterwards.

You can then access the holding bolts.

Get it on the bench and investigate from there.

Maybe try a hard reset first.

Also ensure that the mechanism in both calipers is working but I can't tell you how.

Parking brake calibration is done by pressing the service brake a few times, holding, and pulling the parking brake button. If that doesn't work, may be other issues. The calipers don't need the pistons wound back in, has no affect on PB calibration. PB just pulls a lever on the caliper the same as pulling a handle in the car.

When i did mine the travel was to far for the lever to take up in one movemert, i took off the wheel and operated the lever a few times till the pad was wound out to touch the disc, did the calibration and all was fine.
