Chuck, that car is resplendent. I think I read that you don't keep cars past the warranty period. That said, I have 2 thoughts: 1. How can you let that car go, especially with the XJ redesign leaving this tradition behind. 2. If and when you do let her go, I would love first right of refusal!

AGH... I was looking back through old photos. Shouldn't have done that. Now I have the Jag-itch REALLY bad.

I just remember that I LOVED keeping that car looking brand new. I was so proud driving it around. I must get another one!!!!!

Love the peak at the wood dash and tray tables through the rear window. "Inviting" is the word that comes to mind.

It's settled, Alan. "Upside Down" bedamned!

To bring the thread back on track, how did you figure you would save money by trading in your Xj along with the 2011 Insight for a new Mustang?

1) You already took a hit on the Honda (I am assuming you bough it new)

2) You traded in the XJ (a car you really liked) for a low ball figure, second hit

3) You bought another brand new car, which I'm sure cost at least $25k. Lost $5k just driving it off the lot. That's three for three.

The money you lost on the depreciation between the Honda, Jaguar, and new Mustang you could have just put new tires and perhaps an air shock on for no more than a grand or so and kept the Jag.(Maybe put her in the garage for a few months with storage insurance only)

Or even sold the XJ and just drove the Insight. Sorry not trying to sound like a smart *** or know-it-all but I am trying make sense of this.

All good points. When all was said and done, I only had maybe $2000 of negative equity. The insight I broke even with the trade, even though it was leased. The mustang was about $21 or 22k new and I think I could probably trade it in today for around 20 if I bought a used car from that same dealer.

So yeah, the mustang saves me quite a bit, even just in car payments. About $200 a month once you consider maintenance. (My jag had a few annoying problems that would ve probably been fixed with a new set of tires, and a new power steering pump or rack).

OK I think I will save up for a rock for my girlfriend first, then buy an X358 shortly thereafter. Before she gets her hands on my money!

Or maybe I should get an X350 (2006 or 2007) Super V8 or XJR for less money (and out of warranty) since I will be driving so few miles now?

Or maybe I could do an older XKR or something like that. (<2007 model year.) That would be kinda fun.

As has just been mentioned in another thread, apparently phd12volt is selling his STR for around 12 -13k IIRC and we know he looks after his cars.

Plenty of women out there, there's only so many low mileage XJ8's left.. buy the car first.
