I have 2006 XJ VDP that has sun roof that is beginning to rattle when it's closed and the car is at speed. I don't remember noticing it when I bought the car about a year ago. While it's fairly subtle, I'm concerned that it's going to get worse. It also doesn't seems like it may not be sealing properly as there is a fair amount of wind noise compared to other cars I've had with a sun roof. I know how costly it can be to repair these when they completely fail, so are there any recommendations for adjustment? Is the wind noise normal for this model?

 

I get a lot of wind noise from mine - 2004 XJR. Wondering if it needs a new seal or something.

 

Does it rattle with the sun shade open or closed (both)? Could the sunshade be the part that has the rattle.

 

The rattle happened regardless of the sun shade position.

Good news: I no longer have a rattle!
Bad news: Like damianpenney mentioned I now have noticeable wind noise coming from the front part of the sun roof when it's in the closed position. It's not too noticeable when the shade is closed, but when the shade is open it sounds like the sun roof is partially open.

 

Could be the seal. I had the problem on my 06 Super V8. Replacing the seal solved the problem and also the leak. Seems that when I washed the car, a little water came in. Should have fixed it when the rattle first appeared, but decided to wait for the next service.
