I’m getting a high-pitched whistle from the dashboard every few minutes. It seems to come from the general vicinity of the speedometer. The radio drowns it out so no big nuisance, but it often triggers a confused look from others in the car.

 

If you turn the climate control off completely does it still make the noise?

 

I've got noises from my instrument cluster but not as load as that. Mine are clicking and what sounds like a small animal chewing the internals but I think they are the step motors failing as my speedo sometimes does not work or works intermittently. I just haven't got around to taking the dash apart to fix it. The car has given me more important things to fix !

 

It sounds more like a beep than whistle. Is there a rhythm, or difference at different speeds?

 

My 94 makes a similar noise when the a/c is Trying to work. I think mine is in the hvac box
