I just bought a 2005 VDP with 19" wheels. I have a set of 18" BBS Monaco style wheels that were on my S-Type. The 19s look great but the ride could be better. I think that the 18" wheels with taller sidewalls would help the ride a bit and still look plenty good.

First question is will the S-Type wheels directly fit the XJ?

If they will fit then the second question is about tire size. The XJ has 255/40R19 tires. If I want tires to match that diameter in 18" then they must be 255/45R18. Is there any problem with using 255 width on the 18" wheels? The factory spec for 18" is 235/50.

Third question is are there any XJ owners out there who have gone from 19 to 18 and can confirm that the ride is better?

Any input would be appreciated. I will need to buy tires for the 18s and want to get the right ones if the wheels fit. Otherwise I will have a set of wheels for sale soon.

 

i might be interested in your 19s, are they the chrome custom style?

and im 99% sure both cars have the same pattern fitment so you should be fine.

the 19" on XJs factory are 9" wide i believe and the 18"s are 8.5"

 

I had not planned on selling the 19s. Yes they are the chrome custom style. They have a new set of Pirelli Sottozero tires on them. I figured I would keep them as a backup set if could fit the 18s. The 19s are not in great condition. Prior owner was not "curb aware" :-)
