Question 1997 XJ6 Vanden Plas

ABS light stays on from start-up. My speedometer no longer functions.
My question is will an ABS module failure cause the speedometer to stop working?
I was having no issues with my speedometer until the ABS light went solid.
The speedometer was still working when ABS light was going through it's check and did not go on until I reached 10 mph.
I had the car coded it came up with ABS pump failure but I neglected to get the code from the mechanic.

Thank you for any help.

The pump code is C1095, and it should not cause the speedometer to fail. The pump connection is easily repaired by re- soldering the pins in the case. You can either split the case carefully or cut a hole opposite the pins, which I prefer.
The link below to jagrepair .com is for a XK8/XJ8 module, but the repair is the same.

Question

In an attempt to clean and check my ABS/speed sensors due to the light coming on at 10 mph, I pulled all four cleaned them off. My speedometer was working I put them back in now I have a solid ABS light on start up and no speedometer/odometer. Apparently I screwed something up. There does not seem to be a wrong way to put them back in? They were pretty clean to begin with I just wiped them down.I don't know how to check
for a bad sensor I know it's ohms or resistance and spinning the wheel to check voltage. I just don't know where to place the voltmeter probes.

There is a good chance you broke one of the connecting cables internally. I seem to recall reading that the speedometer feed is from the left rear wheel, but I'm not sure if it uses the same sensor, or if it's even correct.

Hopefully, someone better informed will be watching this thread.

On a s-type I had, the left rear abs sensor was linked to the speedo. When it failed it also reported 'transmission failure'.

You can test them from the abs module cabling on the stype. as it is just a two wire circuit through the sensor. You need to remove the plug of the abs unit to do it.
I recall the reading was about 2 ohms (don't have the jtis handy). Its on here, the wiring diagram, and I bet the pins are shown.

Whatever it will only be a single figure OHM reading your looking for to prove the circuit. You could just check for continuity through the sensor plug as a start.

Cheers
Steve

Apologies last reply was rubbish about the ohm readings. I have just dug out the JTIS docs and its quite different.
Here is the data, (sorry about the fan diagram, not related.)
