95 XJR rear hub wobble
Hello to all you Jag expert, I am completely stumped about a wobbling, oscillating, rear hub. so I have completely rebuilt the entire differential, replaced all the half shaft u joints, replaced the passenger side half shaft, as it looked possibly bent ( how that is possible, I do not know ) rebuilt both rear hubs, and then replaced the offending hub completely, off a parts car. all to no avail. the car makes an droning noise and there is a good vibration at anything above a crawl. with the car off the ground and the car running in gear, the passenger hub is moving in and out with each rotation of the half shaft. it is even wearing the tire unevenly.
So I have rebuilt everything in the system and also swapped out half shafts and hub complete, and yet nothing has changed, I am at a loss
as a little history I have had this car for at least 15 years, and it did not start with this problem but it developed slowly over time, gradually getting worse and worse. so now the droning is fairly bad. And everything I have done has made no difference in the progression of the problem. So any ideas ?????
I should mention I restored European car for a living, so I am not a complete hack, I love this car ( I have currently 6 Jags, mostly x300s, and XK8 and XJS ) but it has given me more grief than any car I have owned. I just sold a 72 XJ6 series1 that I had for over 30 years, and wore the crap out of it it had 477K miles on it and still running, but it went to a good home.
