Default Blue Smoke

Hi,

My 1995 XJR is giving off a little blue smoke as it warms up. There is no smoke from cold start, it just starts to give it off once it warms up.

Engine starts really well, first turn of the key, idles well, no apparent mis-fires.

Any thoughts on why this is, or how to stop it? I have to take it for an e-test this week, so am a little worried it may fail...

Worn rings, perhaps? How's the compression?

Worn valve seals usually result in smoke on start-up which then disapates...so that seems less likely given your description.

Perhaps the breather gauze inside the cam cover is saturated and raw oil is being drawn into the engine?

Cheers
DD

Dougs right sounds like either ring wear or blow-by. Usually blow-by will give you pressure in the sump and a higher exhaust temp on the unit that has the blow-by..

Assuming it is ring wear, as she does have 252,000 kms, do you think adding 'engine restore' to the oil would help?

Before answering that question let me ask you one "how quick does your engine oil start to get dirty".. Plus can you feel any pessure coming up the dip stick?

No pressure from dip stick. Haven't owned the car long enough for the dirty oil question.

I have mates that have used it and have seen improvement. I guess the real test would be take a motor that is high mialage, do a compression test, change oil and add engine restore, then wait like 2k miles and recheck compression to see if it helped restore the compression like it is suppose to..

Hope this helps you..
