Coolant level sensor
Dear friends once more I am asking for advice.
After successfully replacing the front springs on my friends 3.2 Sovereign X300 we discovered that the front shock absorber bushes were really worn resulting in bad knocking when car passed over uneven surfaces.
I offered my help to fit new bushes to the top of the shock absorber.
in order to gain access to the left hand side mounting I moved the coolant expansion tank sufficiently to gain access. I disconnected the sensor fitting and found I had enough room to carry out the bush replacement.
when I attempted to reconnect the connector to rhe sensor, it fell off and it was not seen again. probably resting on something but I could not find it.
There does not seem to be any leak of coolant. I assume it's because half of the old sensor is still firmly in position. My question is how tricky or easy is it to fit a replacement sensor? Will I need to remove the tank entirely or can I just extract the old section from the bottom? I am thinking the the sensor was brittle and just snapped if so perhaps this sad story will bring back memories of similar trouble to one of our members here.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Best wishes
Danny.

G'day Danny,
The coolant level sensor fits into a hollow tube, sealed at the top, in the bottom of the tank, the tank can't leak with the sensor missing.
If you can't find the old sensor and you get a replacement it should fit right into the tube and click into place. Sometimes a dab of silicon will ensure it stays in place.
There is a magnetic ring float which is around the tube and senses the level and activates the light when the level is low.
Cheers,
Jeff.
