Rogue Alarm

I would be grateful for some advice from the forum. I have a 1996 Sovereign which I shipped to Barbados when we moved there 7 years ago.
my wife is holding the fort as I have been in the UK for a few months.
The alarm has gone rogue and went off 6 times last night and many times over the last few weeks. The worst bit is that neither the remote nor the key in the lock will stop it. My wife just has to wait for it to stop. We must be upsetting our neighbors so I would be more than grateful for help.

You've posted in the wrong forum. Your car is an X300 model, not an XJ40.

Hi DoccyG,

I have moved your thread from the forum for the XJ40 to the forum for the X300, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 1996 XJ6. Here you will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars who may be able to offer helpful advice.

Cheers,

Don

Tie a string on the trunk # 4 fuse ( red in color ) will quickly silence it when yanked out but must be reinstalled to start the engine

There is a way to reset the alarm system to zero state

Watch the section on security together as you communicate with her

Take off the negative battery cable and lock the doors manually. Make sure the key works in the trunk lock first so you can get back in to the battery. Car locked and no alarms possible.

Valet switch function is irrelevant. No need to start cutting wires!

There are many possible root causes and it will have to be investigated eventually.

The security lock control module comes in many different versions and 2 FOB frequencies

The different versions have to do with the country made for , if you have 2 door lock barrels , and the later versions had a different frequency and no external to the SLCM supporting relay network

Plan on getting the part # off the SLCM that is located fwd of the fwd trunk panel to the car's right of the fuel fill neck

The SLCU will be mounted upright at an angle with 4 connectors on it

If you remove the SLCM you must remove the battery positive post as well as on installation

A fault can accure if installing it with the battery hooked up and may be your first retry

There is a long list of TSBs on the security system you may want to review beforehand and save for on site

It's probably a dead alarm module, mine would do it too randomly before I've disconnected it and replaced it with a non backup battery module. It would even start while I was driving the car. The module itself is behind the front right headlamp, open bonnet, locate it and disconnect it. 5 min job and if somehow the old backup batteries are still working, it will go off quickly enough without it being connected to the car. Replace the module with non backup battery one.

The backup battery / sounder module behind the right headlights I slightly remember comes in a 2 or 4 wire connector version
