Vibrations 1995 XJR6
Hi,
I have severe vibrations in my XJR6. They start at around 100 km/h and are strongest at about 130 km/h. From 140 km/h onwards they seem to get a bit weaker, but are still present throughout the entire body. The vibrations are not engine speed dependent, but rather speed dependent.
Initially, I changed the tires, as the car had been parked for a longer period. This had no effect. Then we replaced the center bearing on the driveshaft. After that, the problem actually seemed to get worse. Next, we renewed the transmission mount, and since then it has subjectively become even worse.
Suspicion: Every mount or bearing between the drivetrain and the body — when replaced with a new instead of a worn-out one — appears to amplify the problem. Where would you start your search in this case?
The engine runs smoothly and shows no faults when scanned for error codes. By now, everything that was visible has been replaced: transmission mount, center driveshaft bearing, one driveshaft, and two wheels with radial runout. The tires are brand new and have been freshly balanced.
The car drives very well from 0–100 km/h and from 170–200 km/h. The vibrations are at their worst between 120 and 140 km/h...any ideas? Thanks a lot!
Best regards from Stuttgart

Two things I would want to check
1. Rear Hub pivot bearings. These are a common failure and allow the wheel to wobble at speed..
2. Prop Shaft alignment. There are posts on the forum discussing this. There is a Jaguar procedure in the workshop manual to set up the alignment (which aligns the propshaft in a straight line), but other people suggest it should be aligned slightly off centre. You could just try moving the alignment one way then the other and see if it changes the vibration (Move the centre bearing left/right).
