The wipers in my XJ12 were acting up, I believe it had something to do with the park switch. I removed the motor (which means removing the cowl and the linkage too on XJ12s) and adjusted the switch and cleaned corrosion off the wires.

Anyway, tonight, a few days after doing the work, I noticed a rubber sandwiched washer dropped near the bottom of the coolant tank. I got the wiper motor and linkage back in, and it all seemed fine.

I have the rubber bush and the flat washer that goes on top of the hole in the body where the wiper shaft passes through, and the nut (pictured) goes over the shaft and tightens down against the body.

Anyone know where this extra washer goes? Maybe against the underside of the hole that the shaft passes through?
