Default XJ6 3.2 Sport (X300) alarm not working

Good evening,
I'm a new member, who has been a Jaguar Enthusiast from a young age.
I've recently bought a 1997 X300 to compliment my 1973 XJ6 Series 1. I'm thoroughly enjoying my new car, but one thing is bothering me - while the remote central locking appears to be working perfectly, the alarm doesn't seem to function. I've tried deliberately setting it off in various ways and... Nothing... No beep, chirp, siren, horn or hazard flash.
To clarify - when locking with the fob, on the first press, all doors lock and the hazards flash, but no beep / chirp. On the second press, the deadlocks activate but the hazards do not flash, nor does the beep / chirp sound. And on the third press, the headlights come on for around 30 seconds, as they should.
When unlocking with the fob, all doors unlock correctly and the hazards flash twice, but again, no beep / chirp.
In addition, the "panic alarm" function doesn't seem to work.
When locking with the key, exactly the same results as with the fob and when unlocking, no countdown "tick" is heard, nor does the alarm sound if the key isn't turned in the ignition.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I might get the alarm to work?
Thanks for your help!
