Default Actual Horsepower 2003 Vanden Plas Super V8

Good day folks, just a quick question. What is the horespower for a 2003 Vanden Plas Super V8. The internet has it from 358, 370 and 398. Just picked one up a few weeks ago for what I think is a good price ($13k with 69,900 miles). Thanks and I look forward to using this board a lot like I did with the BMW boards.

Terry

Official manufacturer's SAE rating is 370 (US market).

Awesome, another former BMW owner! Previous E36 (325is) and E39 (540i/6) owner here. Welcome.

Confirming it's 370. The 396 is for the X350 XJRs (04+). You have an X308 XJR. Not sure if the 350 is for the X300 or what.

Why are you saying he has a XJR? A LWB Super V8 has the same motor as a XJR.

The X300 XJR was rated at 322 HP.

Wazari.... thanks for the info
Cerberus....yeah I had a 1998 740iL....loved the car, high maintenance. Sold it 2 years after I bought it for exactly what I paid for it. I am comparing right now, but it seems the VP doesn't handle the bumps in the road as well. A small trade off for a master piece...LOL...as I get more time with it, I look to post more...

Waz....oops. Fingers got ahead of my brain. X308 XJ. Also, I found another publication from Jaguar with the 358hp. The deal is that the 370 is DIN HP, and 358 is SAE/EC HP.

Terry, my dad has a 98 740iL as well. Great car. I haven't driven a VDP and comparing my XJR to the iL is hardly fair for a number of reasons, but his drives like it's on a cloud. Much, much softer ride. One thing I could never get used to, and my E39 had it as well, but the steering wheel on the E38/E39 chassis was just WAY too huge of a diameter and too thin too grip well. I love how much thicker the XJ wheel is.

Anyway, enjoy your horses. You've got a lot more power underfoot now. Neat info: your engine makes almost as much torque (over 290 ft-lbs) at just 1600 RPM as your 740iL made at peak.
