Question Gearbox Fault - 01 VDP

I've had my 01 VDP for about two years now and so far so good...but, when it is very cold outside (bellow 32 degrees) I get the gearbox fault message on dash and the car seems to be stuck in a higher gear. With the foot on the brake, I cycle the shifter a couple times (R-N-D and back to Park), shut off the engine and restart - everything back to normal - no message and smooth shifting. Last week I had the Mercedes dealer flush the tranny thinking it might take care of the problem - it didn't. Today at 24 degrees outside...gearbox fault message again. Any ideas? Thanks

whatever you figure out keep me posted ive been going through everything i am having the same problem with my 00 xj8...if u look through my last thread theres a few ways to try and fix it from other members just luck that they have had...Theres a few things it may b ..cold...transmission rotary switch aka (transmission range sensor or neutral safety switch ..all are the same part)...trans control module...or a drum in your gear box...or it maybe the tensioner connected to your gear shift lever....all are costly to do new...the gear lever is easy its in my last post somone explains...i just go the rotary switch off a car in the junk yard and i also got the trans control module out of the junkyard i havnt replace anything yet i am going to give it a shot this weekend....if you figure out the problem in the mean time please get back to me as will i if i figure out ...
