I have the inline 6 1996 X300 but this question is for a 1998 X308 for someone else
From my understanding the heater water pump electric motors are the same up to year X of the X308
Can you remove the electric motor for brush replacement without disturbing the water lines?
The X300 has a solid shaft to the pump impellor, ( i've had mine out and apart before ) and I have a hint that the X308 has some kind of magnetic coupler so the water lines can be left alone

You only lose a cup of coolant removing the pump, so it would be easier to remove it.
I know both X300 and 308 pumps are interchangable except for the mount braket. How they work internally - I don't know.

Thanks ,
1 cup no big deal
The X308 has a check valve in the hoses the X300 does not
