Default New 3rd Generation tensioners shorter then the old ones

I AM CONFUSED.....NEED HELP !!!

I ordered the full metal Tensioner and installed it today.
I used the easy way by lifting up Exhaust Camshaft......as I was doing it I noticed the new piece like 1/2 shorter and the original screws where to long as well..had to use washers.
Basically on the bottom side side the chain wasn't touching the lower part of the tensioner and had slack at the lower chain.
But I put it back together and started the car and it gave me to much noise. So I had to install the original one back, which I hated to do. But then the car was sounding normal again.
Those parts did look like promoted on ebay and everywhere else.....can someone PLEASE give me some info on this ?

The body of the metal tensioners is about 1/8" shorter than the plastic ones which is why you need to use the shorter bolts often discussed. If your tensioners are 1/2" shorter you have the wrong parts.

The metal tensioners do require shorter bolts. The tensioners are cheaper if you get them through a Ford dealer. Here are the part numbers for tensioners AND bolts:
2W9Z6K254BA
2W9Z6K254CA

W500301S300 - 4 bolts.

I listed the ford part## for tensioners just in case you have issues with your current ones. The bolts are easy dealer stock.

Welcome to the Forum. Check the part numbers - sounds like they're wrong.

Each tensioner ships with a retaining pin holding the plunger in. Usually a bright orange head.

Did you forget to pull these pins out?

This is mentioned many times in the various threads. Likewise the shorter bolts.

+1 Plums comment- if the pin is pulled, the tensioner WILL push on the chains.

One more thing to check, the tensionsers are different for the left and right side. IIRC they are marked with an L and R.

Also, if you put washers on the bottom of the tensioners, there is no way for oil to get in them to pressure them up to proper operating position.

Check list:
1. Part numbers correct?
2W9Z6K254BA
2W9Z6K254CA
W500301S300 - 4 bolts.
2. Left/right installed correctly?
3. Shorter bolts installed?
4. Pins pulled?
5. Zip ties removed?

That should do it.
