Hi,
First time on the forum. I am looking at a relatives 1999 XJ8. Car is in great shape with 70k miles. Anyway, car was at the dealership getting a new headliner when one of the techs noticed a clicking noisein the steering column. My Aunt was given an estimate of 6k to repair. My aunt is 66 years old and doesn't understand car talk.
Can anyone tell me what might be going on with the steering that might cost that much? And, what do you think the car might be worth (color is light brown metallic with light biege interior). And, what maintenance items are coming up at 70k miles.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Eric

The clicking was in the steering colum or the rack? Either way 6k is steep.
You need to find out exactly what they were quoting. Call dealer. They can pull history.
I can't remember replacing anything in the steering system the cost 6 grand.
