The reason I am posting this is because I was going to look at a nice 2000 XJ8 with 120K miles but I got cold feet after going over the service records of my 2003 XJR. My 2002 XJR had 150K miles on it and had about as many issues. It's not even the $$$ that worries me but the number of times I had to take them to the service place.
01-13-2017 transmission service (yes this is normal maintenance)
02-04-17 the throttle body sensor was not working. I ordered a rebuilt one that was installed at a later date. Fuel filter replaced, spark plugs replaced, valve cover gaskets replaced (yes this is normal maintenance)
02-10-17 replaced throttle body
02-27-17 replaced mass air flow sensor
04-21-17 replaced motor mounts
06-14-17 replaced front shock absorbers, rebuilt upper shock towers and replaced bumper stops
07-07-17 replace ABS module
11-07-17 replaced throttle control relay
11-13-17 added stop leak to the radiator
12-19-17 replaced hood-hold struts
02-08-18 tightened coolant clamps below throttle body and behind the engine, replaced front and rear brake pads
05-18-18 replace front rotors
Is this the way any X308 XJR with 100K miles is going to be? ***I bought this XJR from one of the Jaguar service shop employees***

The only thing that concerns me is the addition of stop leak. I know it was 7 years ago but, unless I absolutely had no other choice I would never use any of that stuff. It hurts the efficiency of the cooling system.
In my opinion, the 98’-03’ XJR X308 is one of the most reliable Jags I can think of. The naturally aspirated X308 has the troublesome ZF 5HP24 transmission. If you know these cars well enough and provide the proper care for them you can be way ahead with reliability vs other people’s unreliable Jag rants about them.
I will always highly recommend a prepurchase inspection vs a post purchase inspection. Many customers bring a “just bought it” car to us and can sometimes get an unexpected surprise which makes anybody cringe.

I've done more or less a similar list on my 01 XJR over the last 18 months. Rebuilt throttle body, hood and trunk struts, front shocks and upper mounts, rears need doing, couple wheel bearings, power steering pump, brakes & tires.
