well, im pretty sure i will have to do rear wheel bearings on the 98 VDP im purchasing. my question to you lot is... does it pay to buy the tooling and parts in order to DIY? what would an independent specialist usually charge for such a job? i would need a press $135 , the bearings $95 / set , universal hub puller $75 , bearing race / seal driver kit $30, special grease maybe $15.

I'm having both replaced after feeling like I was loosing control of the car last night in a slow wide turn. The car was fish tailing and the pavement was dry.
I'll update with the price from my local trusted shop (the owners wife has a jag) in Louisiana shortly.

I had both rear wheel bearings replaced at my local shop for $952. The Driver's side was worse but decided to do both at the same time.
I'm just hoping I can get some miles on her before any more repairs!

Do a search for a post called "rear end wiggle" it's about my 98 and failed bearings in the rear suspension, but not the wheel bearings!
It's food for thought.
