Default Removal of wood trim over passenger airbag

i have gotten all the interior wood trim removed for restoration except the piece above the glove box. Got it popped off but the whole thing is held to the airbag with straps attached to a styrofoam piece that appears to be glued to the back of the veneer piece. How to you get it off? Do the straps remove and you just keep the styrofoam attached or is there a way to remove the styrofoam piece altogether freeing up the veneer piece? I have tried prying all around where the styrofoam attached to the veneer piece but all I have done is damage the edges of the styrofoam. Please advise!

You slide the metal bar out the side to remove the trim.

The passenger airbag cover piece is a bit more stiff to get off and requires more effort, but comes off the same. There are four tabs on each corner. The only difference is it has a tether on it so the wood doesn't smack the passenger in the event of airbag deployment in an accident. The first time I popped mine off, I thought I broke it, it was so tight. You just have to work it up.
