Symptoms of failing/failed "A" drum
What are the symptoms of a failing or failed "A" drum?
How much does it cost to fix or do they take the whole tranny with it when they fail?
Is there a milage they can be expected to last until? Does maintenance extend their service life?
Thanks
Eric

If you do a search for "a drum failure" you will get loads of input. Morpheus 311 is one of the most recent to experience the problem. I have one acquaintance with over 120K mi on his XK8 and no problems. Others have failed at 50K.

The A drum itself (if that's the problem) is a design flaw, and no amount of fluid changes will help.
The bearing/o ring failure I had probably falls in the same category. My impression is that it will fail even if you change the fluid every year. Things wear out. Check out my thread, here:

In either failure scenario, it usually revs high trying to pull away from a light, then it slams into 5th gear with a bang. You lose 1st through 4th gears when these failures occur.
