Exclamation XJR--Extra RPM's on 2nd Shift-

When i start off accelertating, my first shift is fine, then my second will get to the peak rpm, right when its about to shift, it revs up an extra 500rpm then shifts down to 3rd.. For example, it may be at 3000 and when you expect it to ****, it jumps to 3500 by itself then shifts down to 3rd. im wondering why this might be?

So you're saying that at the shift point between 2nd and 3rd, at 3000 RPM, 2nd gear is released, the engine seems to freewheel a bit up to 3500 RPM and then the shift to 3rd is engaged?

If so I'd suspect a sticky valve body in the tranny - if it is something like a half a second+ between disengagement of 2nd and engagement of 3rd.
