Battery died and now my 1994 xj6 will not start

WE FIRST THOUGHT IT NEED A START SO WE REPLACED STARTER. STILL THE CAR WOULD NOT START JUST A CLICKING SOUND. WE REPLACED BATTERY AND CAR WOULD TURN OVER BUT WOULD NOT SPARK. WE REPLACED INGITION COIL AND CHECKED ALL THE FUSES BUT CAR WILL JUST TURN OVER AND IGNITION COIL GETS REALLY REALLY HOT. I KNOE ITS NOT THE SECURITY SYSTEM BECUASE WE BYPASSED IT. WE KNOW ITS NOT THE FUEL BECUASE BE RESET THE FUEL CUT OFF SWITH AND WHEN YOU TRY STARTING U CAN SMELL FUSE. PLEASE HELP I HAVE SO FAR HAD ABOUT 20 HOURS OF MY TIME AND MONEY INTO THIS AND I CANT FIGURE IT OUT.

Need info...how long was it sitting before you had tried to start it (when it made the clicking noise)? When was the last time you put fuel into it? When was the last time it was driven? Have you checked to make sure the plugs aren't fouled?
