Interchangeable Heads
If you are in need of a head for your xj40 89-94, let it be known the heads are interchangeable. The valve covers are not. 89-92 are, 93-94 stand alone.
I recently put a 94 head on a 90 and and the valve cover is different. Also, the timing chain guard you will need to use from the 93-94, the 89-92 timing chain guard blocks the screw hole for the valve cover on the 93-94 cars. The oil vent on the 93-94 valve cover is in a different location than on the valve cover on the 89-92, you will need to get a 1/2 to 5/8ths reducer, for the hose. The output on the 93-94 valve cover is 1/2in the 89-92 is 5/8th |
Note also that the late '94 cam covers are different too. On the '93-to-early '94 cars the cam cover is affixed with 7 screws, but on the late '94 cars like Larry's the cover is affixed with more screws, maybe 11 or 13? Hopefully Larry will see this and confirm the number.

13 Don ...
(even though JHT wouldn't believe me, insisted 7 were enough!!) ;) Larry |
