Interiors & Trim

I'm about to start pulling door panels out on my XJ40 and was noticing that the wood grain is actually in great condition, except for the drivers door and the console. I got to looking at the rough pieces of wood-grain and was thinking that it looked thicker than most wood that Ive messed with so far. so the question is; has anyone tried to re-finish the original wood grain in a jag? thoughts? (has 88 XJ40)

( This wasn't getting any response in General Tech section so I've moved it to XJ40 section. )

There must be members here who have successfully tackled this issue. Can't believe the Ski Slope problem for one has been cured since I had my XJ40!

I really love the "pattern" on the original wood grain, it would be a shame to have to replace it with some crappy aftermarket stuff (I'll probably wind up coming up with a modern concept upholstery pattern if I cant re-finish the grain). I bet its hard to find quality pieces of original wood grain to replace it. Ski Slope problem?

Try this link for a start on XJ40 veneer issues:

There's much more to be found if you run a forum search.

The 'Ski Slope' is the curved section around the ashtray and was a regular for cracking. It's more than ten years since I sold my XJ40 and this may have been resolved since then. Current owners among the members here will have up-to-date information.

Most likely easier would be to go to a salvage yard and see if they have the pieces you need.Just take one of your parts with you to see if the grains are similar. These parts a usually cheap as they dont sell many of them.
