The New Addition
 

Well after perusing CL I happened upon a 1993 Xj6 that was listed as a parts car. Wasn't looking for one but the "New tires" kind of caught my eye as my '90 really needs fronts. It looked to be in great shape with some minor hail damage but does have a salvage title.

I go look at it and am really surprised, the car is in overall great condition, drives very very well, and has no sign of major mechanical damage. I can not find (yet) why it is salvage. No CEL but the brake light did start coming on when brake is applied, not sure what triggers that. She stops fine. Bad accumulator? Dirty sensor (the rotors had a fair amount of rust)? It also has a bad fuel sender and drivers outside door handle is inop.

Other than that everything seems to be in order however I did note when i got home the transmission fluid is overfull and slightly brown. Drives fine though.

So in short my parts car turned out to be way to nice to part out, so now I have two babys to take care of.:icon_redcam:

Not bad for a grand...
One thing I saw is they have the coolant hose bypassing the Restrictor(EAC7019) on the intake manifold. Is this good/bad?

Also in the engine pic you can see a red wire with a blue crimp connector going to nowhere. Most of these relays have broken off of their hooks so i am not sure what each ones function is. Can not find a wire to pair that red wire too. The fuse box #1 panel is missing so I do not know what the fuses are for the number one box either. Anyone have a diagram for this?

Not bad for a grand indeed! The inside leather looks amazing and the and that dark green color has to be my favorite color Jaguar ever made, is it the British racing green or brooklands green?

Nice find! Sure beats my $400 parts car, which barely drove when I got it.

Nice going gunner. The brake light coming on alone, without the ABS, is brake pads. Which side are you missing the fuse panel for? I'll take a pic and send it. I have a drivers handle, you just need to put your lock in it. pm me if needed. The haynes shows those relays within the engine bay.

Santa Fe and Albuqurque.

I just got back from my vaccation but she has new tranny fluid and filter in. Coolant hose was replaced and routed properly through the restrictor. I still need to remove a bit of oil and I think there is a short (or something) in the wiring for the lower fan. When it is hot and the car has been driven I will get intermittent fuse fail light on dash that corresponds to cooling fan. Fairly sure the thermostat is stuck at least partially open as I have seen it overcool.

Looks to need new outer tie rod ends as well (of course, what car dosen't).

I think the reason these cars come so cheap is it seems for most people an vintage Jaguar is not their only car. They just don't want to deal with the problems, no matter how small when they already have a daily driver. Attach the age old addage that Jaguar mechanics is very tough and you have a very sweet deal on your hands, assuming you don't mind the problems....:icon_warped: I tell people it is my hobby...I guess it kind of is.

That's a very nice looking car you've found. The brake warning light could be a damaged brake wear sensor which is triggering even though the pads are fine.

Hopefully this is the correct side fuse box!

Thanks for the pic and sorry for late response. That is not the correct side. My fault, I assumed Circuit 1 was drivers side. I need Circuit 2 or the drivers side box. This is going to be a hard one to pinpoint as it is not a blown fuse it is a short somewhere else (intermitent fuse light).
