What does AE or non AE even mean?

How does someone identifiy between the two?

This if for a 1983 XJ6 4.2L

AE is a brand name. AE makes pistons and piston rings as well as other engine parts. Think Federal Mogul here in the USA.

AE stands for AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING - a fine british establishment.
