Aftermarket wheels
 

Hi, been searching and searching and can't seem to find any pictures of an 86 XJ6 or any year, with aftermarket rims like 17 inch or so. I know someone had to have some. Please show me what you have.

Jags with aftermarket wheels are a bit unusual, especially older (pre-1998 or so) ones. The reason: Jag hubs require the wheel to have a larger-than-usual center hole....and not many wheel manufacturers have gotten on board.

More often than not you'll bigger wheel from other Jag models rather than aftermarket.

Thanks Doug, you seem to always answer so I'm going to hi-Jack my own tread haha. Can you tell me how to make a stock rear suspension into a Lister type. I'm building a 500hp 383 stroker and apparently need to brace the rear end. I can't find any specifics on doing this. I found pictures but not anything that says this is what was added. I am currently rebuilding my front suspension and will be moving to the rear in a couple of days so I want to make/build what I need while it's out.

Here's my coup with Torque Thrust 2's. The wheels are 17x8 high offset wheels. The application is front Gen 3 Camaro. The wheels are not hub centric so they bolted up. As for the handling I've got a rear sway bar from an XJS. The car still rides and handles great.

Here's one of a SIII with 17" wheels that I believe came on the XJR. Not really "aftermarket" since they are Jaguar wheels, but gives you an idea.

Jim, I posted a message that talks about putting 18" rims on the car, yes finding something aftermarket isn't easy so I had them bored out to fit the hubs, correct tires,offset etc.... The boring was done before delivery for $50/rim and I got what I wanted. Anyways, search on "Rim options for an 84 VDP" and you will find the measurements a couple pics and comments of what I did. It is the only thing I've done to the car so far but am hoping to follow fastkat,icsamerica and others in redo-ing the car from the ground up this coming winter.

No, sorry, I don't know any details on that.

I don't believe this to be a good design and its my opinion this should not be emulated in anything other than a old truck where good handling isn't expected. The solid trailing arm will cause serious rear steer condition and bind. As the trailing arm travels in an arc, it lengthens and shortens which would pull or push the hub out of the correct perpendicular position with the center line of the vehicle and would tend to make the IRS role. I believe the way Lister did it is the best way because it results in no rear steer or roll.

its possible for you to remove the rear spindles & turn them down (that's what we did) to fit more common wheels

Where?...Am I missing it? the tread you posted has many links to other threads but I cant find any mention of racing and I see no details other that the truck install. Perhaps you can point me in the right direction because I'd enjoy reading more about it.

I used wheels from a 1997 XJ6 (or was it a 1998 XJ8?) and they bolted right up with no fitment issues. I had them powder coated metallic silver. The wheels are 16x7 with 225/55R16 summer tires. I'm very happy with the performance, ride, looks, etc.

Sorry for not getting back to everyone, been laid up with kidney stones for a while now. Anyways Aristocat how low is your Jag with the black BBS wheels and what size rims 16,17,18????

Will 16" x 6" wheels fit on my 1975 XJ?
I know there is a much better selection of tires available in that size wheel but not sure if the tires will rub.
I would like to use the Dunlop D-Type aluminum wheels in 15" x 6" or in 16" x 6" if possibly produced in that size.

If the wheels bolt up properly and fit tight on the hub-centric hub, and the offset is the same as all the other Jaguar wheels used on the XJ SI-SIII, then yes they should fit without rubbing. Of course you can't go crazy with the tire size either. My 225's do not rub.

Did you have to roll the fenders out at all. I thinking air bags for mine. I did a set up on my 01 dodge ram and I really like it. Any pictures of what you have going on our is it to secret haha.
