Any advice on buying a '95 XJ6 in Arizona?
Hi everyone,
First post here, I'm contemplating buying a '95 XJ6 with 145K on the clock. I know, lots of miles... Anyhow, what are the top 3 things to look for when going to look and test drive this thing? OK, top 5 or 6, you get the idea. One specific question: Are the IRS's a lot of maintenance trouble or do they live a long happy life? At 145K miles, am I going to have to do some major work to the IRS joints ? And are they U-joint style or CV joints? Thanks for all good comments. Karl |
RE: Any advice on buying a '95 XJ6 in Arizona?
Arizona cars are rust-free - that's good - but spend the money to do a CARFAX check to see if it is native to Arizona or if it came from the North which is not good (salted roads). Not familiar with the 1995 model, mine are old, but Jaguar IRS are forever and the only one that gave trouble is the 1988 which had a self-leveling rear suspension system (like Citroen) and which was lots of trouble. by now they've all been converted to normal shocks. IRS hubs are u-joint based, not CV joints as far as I know. Check specifics for your model here:

Excellent info, thanks a lot. Should I move this post to the X300 area? Sorry, just now learning about the model differences.
Thanks. |

I don't think you can move the postings, except start it again over there. It doesn't matter anyway. everyone seems to gravitate here because an XJ-6 by any other model-name (XJ-40, X-300, X-308) is still an XJ-6.
