Default Batt. light stays on 1993 XJ6

I'm posting this question and then going to use a multimeter to check the alt. voltage at the battery. I'm not getting the 13volts, closer to 10 i believe. It's a 1993 XJ6..im not familiar with jags but anything else i can fumble thru. I just put in a new battery but the batt. light stays on. ive checked all the fuses on the inside of the car. The lightening bolt display light has gone out now....

Is there a batt. relay I can check or a fuse? and where?

SECONDLY, the owners recently deceased husband was a submariner ....he was a tinkerer and took the cap off where the 'J' is on the gearshift...you have to use a pin to push in there to get it to go into gear....whats the deal with this and how do i go about finding the part/s and why did he do that?

You've posted in the wrong forum. Try the XJ40 forum, the one for your car.

I haven't moved it as I'm not sure how to. Better to repost yourself. And don't think you're an idiot, even veterans get confused with the jaguar XJ saloon models.
