Old tool rectification project 99% done. Love tools, it passed on to son. he just installed modern guts in one of his "semi antique" CNC mills that he uses to produce products to sell in his on line business..


The neat "egg beater hand drill" resists my efforts to free up t's frozen rotating parts.


I sold off an extra DPDT polarity reversing switch. The buyer is local, a mechanical engineer stocking his shop for his retirement years.


Offered a derust idea. Agricultural grade molasses diluted. Cows like it, it likes rust.... , Elinor may have some input...

I have no experience with agricultural molasses, because we didn't have many cows when I was growing up. We grew wheat.

I don't remember tools and things getting all that rusty. but then, Dad's brother was rather anal about taking care of stuff like that, and they worked together until he died. They're both gone now so I can't even ask.

Because you've mentioned before that he is the one that has the
tendency to accumulate such stuff.

I have no doubt that you can handle tools as well as most, but I
figure you are less afflicted with toolitis. :)

Where did you get those hood vents? I'm diggin 'em!

Agricultural molasses. sold by Walmart and others. Poured over hay or mixed in feed for horses and cattle as a sweet treat. Adds energy.
Also for soil amendment and wild life.

Brer Rabbit Dark Molassas Rust removal
 

I've used dark molasses at 11 to 1 for rust removal. Should have used 9 to one or 10 to one.


Cleaned an old sad iron.


It works! It's slow.

Kept a 55gal plastic barrel full out back of the shop. Took days at the time but would derust as well as about anything. But the smell! Figured I'd have the ATF by looking for a still or something. Kept it for prob 3 or 4 months maybe longer, I poured it out on the ground and trashed the barrel, funked up the whole neighborhood for weeks. Cleaned a lot of parts but it takes a little while and with the smell, I'll just stick to phosphoric acid based rust removers or blasting. Hey it did work well on a jag fuel tank though!
