The body is from a 1984 Nissan 300ZX, This was it when I started.
Attachment 100748
The chassis started as a bundle of chrome moly tubing and grew into a backbone frame.
Attachment 100749
The front suspension came out of a 1989 XJ140 I modified it to accept coilovers, then had it chromed.

The rear end was bought from a junk yard and I think it came from an XJ12. It is a Dana 44. I went through it, replaced the bearings and seals.

Looks like a cool project, what are you goi g to do for the engine?

The engine

This all started because the Nissan engine was getting tired. So I in a moment of insanity decided I'd put a hundred dollar Chevy in it. Then, the old "As long as I'm at it" kicked in and.....

It's amazing what a $100 engine turns into with only about $5000 stuffed into it.
Its a 355sbc that is making about 425 hp The trans is a TH 350 with a fully controllable valve body.

I like it!!!

Decades ago, son bought a Nissan, 240, I think. Frame damage so cheap. He made and welded in a new front cross member, straightened and painted the bonnet and back on the road, as good as or better than new. Fun car to drive. Sold for a tidy profit. Saw it around here for quite a spell.

Neat. Same source yielded a 280Z. Lots more power. But fiddly. Repair almost the same. sold, good return.

And before that, daughter got a nice Datsun Fair lady, I think, a slick little roadster.
Percuser to the "Z" cars.

So, this project infuses Jag front and rear. Great components. Yeah, SBC into Z's was once almost as common as SBC's into Jaguars. Slick.

Some time ago, I read of a guy that melded Jaguar suspension, scratch built frame, SBC covered in 37 Cord remnants. Slick.

I like these. Beats the crusher all to pieces.

Geez! Nice fabrication! So you're gonna put the 300zx body back on? I'll sub this thread.

Neat work.

Looks like you've retained the original wishbones on the front cross member but entirely modified the spring?

I can't quite make it out from the angle on the LH picture.

Yes, I retained the control arms, and built a shock mount that bolted on in place of the spring on the bottom. Next I modified the cross member for clearance.

Then fabricated the upper mounts for the coilovers.

Finally, to add to the stiffnes the engine was mounted on engine plates.
