Smile Need repair manual for xj6 1984 vanden plas

I am a new member and have a 1984 XJ6 vanden plas with 91,000 miles. This is a one family owner car since 1984. I inherited the auto from my wifes parents. I was looking to find a repair manual for this beauty. Would anyone know which direction to point me in? Thanks

I bought a Jaguar factory service manual for the XJ Series III off eBay for about $20. Great purchase, IMO.

"Haynes" has a reasonably decent one too... which is inexpensive and available at most parts stores... (Not as good as a shop manual though). MC

Besides the shop manual you'll also want the parts catalog (excellent illustrations) and "S57" wiring guide (much better schematics)

Ebay, as mentioned, is a good source. The better Jag parts vendors can also get what you need.

If you're Ok with discs rather than paper manuals you might wanna consider:

Jaguar Heritage. CD ROMS

You can buy these direct from JDHT or, again, Jag parts vendors often have them

Cheers

Thanks for the leads , I'll look into all of them. The car has some delayed maintenance these last few years as it was siting in a garage for a while. It will be project and I'll pass some pics as soon as I figure out how to post.

My strong advice, based on personal experience is to buy the official Series 3 workshop manual. It's about 1" thick and about A4 size. A mine of information written by blokes who knew their subject.

Other thing that is very valuable is the parts book as this contains "exploded" diagrams of all the assemblies, plus, of course, the part numbers. There is also a code to derive the sizes and thread of the various bolts and screws in the part number. However, I have forgotten it, as it was a long time ago now !

Both these books are available on the web. If there is a picture of the item, it is a dark green book with white lettering. Here is a UK supplier; they ship to the US:
