After all the practice you've had sticking numbers all over your car for Off Topic photos, you should have been able to put it on straight! :icon_lol:

Graham

Mine will be Graham, that was just a cardboard mock-up of Phill's.

My track day tomorrow, I don't see Dr Phill under the car prepping it meticulously like he did for his track day.
He did chamios it for me under supervision though.

Dr Phill 04-30-2016 04:35 AM

Clarke, now as your professional driver I thought all I had to do was turn up and drive.lol. I helped with the cleaning only to prove I'm still a good mate. This also is not to mention you give yourself an extra 10% throttle opening to try and give yourself the edge. It's ok but. I get another go tomorrow too, remember. Looking forward to seeing you give the car a little bit of tough love.

Rain was the spoiler for the day, but I did get to do a 180 in front of a mob of fast Mini's and them watch scramble to go around me.

A session in the Blue Goose was better with a bit more traction. Thanks Paul for handing me your keys in very slippery conditions.

Racing in the rain. Even more fun!!!

The big ?. After the 180, did you keep the engine running? Or did you have to restart? One of the measurements or an amateur vs a pro?

!!!

Kept it running, a lot easier in an auto. Just sat waiting for the rest of the field to pass by while facing the wrong way, then lit up the rears and spun around and finished our drift session. I did manage to keep it on the black stuff...more luck than ability I think.
The whole track was like a skid pan. Opposite lock all the way round except the one left hander that had some grip.

Drifting in Paul's Goose, Got to love a screaming V12 in second.

"Got to love a screaming V12 in second." a friend of mine calls that an Italian Tune Up :-) always good to blow out the cobwebs, thats my excuse anyway.

Uh-oh

Apparently Dr Phill couldn't control himself on the way home Lakeside raceway.

Bloody hell.........nine klicks over and one point...doesn't seem fair. You'd think they'd give you a ten klick leeway!

A work mate of mine got booked at 84 in that tunnel, doesn't seem right since I was once told a new car coming into Australia only has to be within +/- 10% accuracy on the speedo to meet ADR's under the Motor Vehicle Standards Act.

Queensland recently lowered the tolerance on speeding offences, I believe in school zones they allow 2 km/h leeway according to someone I know who has a relative in the Road Policing Command.

Dr Phill 05-21-2016 05:45 PM

Thanks for the post Clarke, you know I was using the drive home as the warm down session. Still getting used to converting mph to kms. Oh well I've been a good boy for so long it had to happen eventually.

Most of those speedos are reading high though, never seen a modern car that reads real speed. My wifes Subie is way out 110 when doing 100 actual. My two 80s cars are pretty much spot on.

Dr Phils fine is what I pick up every year or two , the less than 10k over. I often get caught out by changes in Melbourne. I think I know the particular road but the speed limit has changed, and what I think I know over rides what is written in the signs in front of my face.

Looks like the leeway and fine structure is similar up there

Dr Phill hooked up this cold air intake for me today, since I had the series 3 top panel on the radiator with the intake tube above the radiator. I picked up an air cleaner cover for $20 that we chopped to suit. Keeping the original with the stickers intact.

Got to be better than the original sucking hot air from behind the radiator.

Cool air intake. along with wrapping all the fuel lines in Thermo-Flex, seems to have done away with the vapor lock problem I've had with Nix every day the temperature is above 65F!

Logic does indeed dictate that air coming from Outside at ambient (whatever that may be) has Got to be better than superheated air in the engine compartment.

I think you'll like performance, Clarke, I certainly liked performance after Nix got one, and it will *Feel* stronger (dyno readings be hanged!). Nothing else much matters, does it.

When I bought my 83, it had the little "snozzle" that allowed the ingestion of cool air. But, it was busted. that old brittle plastic thing.

As lumped, it does breathe hot engine bay air via a conical
after market filter. It has a wide four row cored brass radiator that
limits acess to a cool air intake modification. A really nice one
has been designed and created by past lumper, Bob Loftus.
But, the dryer is in the way non my car. Major redo of it's dormant
AC would be needed to accommodate that design. So, it isn't likely
to happen.

No worry, though, no fueling issues and plenty of power on tap.

Dr Phill 05-26-2016 05:56 PM

Its a proven fact that cool fresh air is so much better for performance than stale engine bay hot air. We will find out next time we feel the need to show "Fireball" some tough love and agression.

JagCad 05-27-2016 09:29 AM

Dr. Phil:

That air density thing...
