Towbar for XJ S3

I have purchased a tow bar for a S3 Soveriegn. It is a Hayman-Reese and has a plate confirming that it is for a S3.

When I attempted to fit the tow bar, it attaches to the rear bumper mounts and fits snugly inside the rear bumper... until I attempt to put the rear fog lights back in!

There appears to be not enough space for the lights to fit back into their recesses....

My question(s)...

Do all S3 XJ have rear fog lights in their bumpers?

Has anyone else had this experience?

After speaking with a Jaguar workshop, their advice was to cut the back out of the foglights... not what I thought would have been the solution.

OK.. so I am now looking around for any XJs with towbars fitted so I can sneak a look.... they were everywhere up until last week!

Any thoughts on the matter would be most appreciated,

regards,

Rhys

No, they don't.

Sorry, that's the only part of your question I can help with :-)

Thanks Doug... I guessed as much.

Might have to look for some spare fog lamps that I can "trim".

It's odd that the supports for the tow bar fit that widely on the rear bumper...
The only one that i have ever had actually bolted through the plate on the IRS, then came through some drilled holes in the boot, and had a center securing bolt through the center of the rear bumper... Kind of shaped like a crooked cross...

My guess from looking at the way it was installed was that it was made for a very light weight.

The way your's sounds like it installed, it sounds like it would support plenty of weight... but not be very good for stablizing or weight distribution.... (Kind of like a bumper ball on a pickup)....

Thanks David,

I have (hopefully) attached two pictures of the towbar... (just have to excuse the brick).

The bar fits snugly up inside the bumper, and attaches to the bottom of the boot, where I will have to drill some holes in the wheel well to be able to bolt it up underneath the car.

Hope the pictures help to show the design of the tow bar... seems as though the tow bar is for a non "foglit" S3 XJ or an XJS2(?)

regards,

Rhys
