well the last time i ran her she idled fine backfired and wouldnt start up again? i checked the motor over because it didnt sound right too close too the engine .. the rail that parallels the fuel rail had a hole blown in it (a bit rusty so understandable ) what the hell is this thing? im a certified tech but even i cant think of its proper name ive seen several cars without this soo can i delete it? is it part of the smog system i havent had much time too look her over. thanks

Air injection manifolds. Lots of guys take 'em off and plug the holes.

Check out this link from "Bernard Embden's" web site. He did a nice job removing his Air Rails. Might give you some ideas for your own solution.
