Default Charged Up My Air Conditioning

The AC in my XJS was not working. I had it charged last year and it did work. Bought a can of refrigerant and charged it myself. IT WORKED! It's so cold now that it froze me . So I had to shut it off, stop and put the top down. I hope it lasts. I'm sure I have a slow leak though somewhere.

Next time you need to re-gas, I would change all the O rings, these are the most likely culprit of a leak.

BTW what gas are you using and what hoses.

The original hoses are for R12 and if you use R134a it can leak through the hose as the gas molecules are much smaller.

The change over year from R12 to R134 in the US was '93 IIRC. I assume the manufactures made the proper adjustments to account for the change. "O" rings are the most common culprit of leaking refrigerant. They get old and lose squishiness and then flattened from the pressure plate.

My car is set up for R 134a and that's what I used. There is a sticker on the cowl indicating that. The brand is "interdynamics EZ Chill". It's an 18 oz. can with a gage on the hose. Installation couldn't be easier.

Sorry I neglected to look at your signature.

Have the system evacuated all the O rings replaced and recharged.

R134a will always penetrate through hoses, even ones mad for that stuff. New cas need a new charge every 4-6 years. If you get longer out of it, well you're lucky.

Newest hype is R700. Pure CO2. This is an a lot smaller molecule... I expect a recharge every 2 years latest... Maybe every service.
