Head removal
anyone have a head puller i can borrow, know where i can get one OTC, or know an alternative method for removing the heads?
|
any suggestions?
|
I can't remember where I found 1 listed online, I just remember the price was more than the cost of a used engine, so I replaced the whole thing!
|
I never used one because I pull all the studs with a 'socket-style' stud puller. The kind with 3 rollers inside.

even if you get the studs out, arent the heads welded on from the corrosion?
Where do you find those sockets and what are they called? |
I used forklift to shake my heads loose. All studs and there is about 26 of em were fused to the heads.
|
a forklift should be cheaper.

This seems a great idea! I have a long-term project to entirely rebuild my spare engine and I am scared about not being able to remove the heads. Where and how did you attach the forks to the head? Greg |
its getting interesting!!
get a book. a fork lift will lift straight up ,and the heads are on an angle, they will bind up, and you may damage other things! most talented people make there own head puller! |
i have a head puller, but id need to somehow make sure i get it back. because im planning on building some more v12s in the near future. it takes about 20 min to pull a head with that thing.
