QuickJack BL-5000SLX

Has anyone used one of these lifts successfully with the XJ-S? Looking at the specifications, my area of concern is with the rubber lift block maximum spread which is listed as 60". That's ever so slightly less than the distance between the "pins" at the jacking points. Other than that the contraption looks ideal for my garage space...

I have one of these in my garage.

You are a lucky man. But at more than double the price in my neck of the woods..I'd be happier if the QuickJack would do the job.

I'm also contemplating getting a set of quickjacks.

Did you take the plunge, @jag-reflex ? Thoughts?

I suppose that if it looks bad, you could put a 4x2 between the jack and the car. The jacking pins on my '94 are hexagonal and would fit within a drill hole 20mm diameter by 12mm deep (3/4" dia by 1/2" long).

The Quick Jack is not long enough for the XJS, however they do make an extender (to 66 inches I think) and that is long enough for the XJS. I bought the extender, but I have not used it yet. I think it will work fine.

Never did it. i made do with ramps and jack stands and it worked out ok. i drilled a centre hole in hockey pucks to accomodate the pin at the jacking points.

Haha, just saw that the original post was 2018. Maybe my post will help fried_hippies.

When a kind soul posts here, they may help one person then and there - and who knows how many others in the years to come.

I had thought that the quickjack might fit in the budget, but (I believe) you need the BL-7000XLT at €1575 and the exchange rate to Imperial Shillings is not on our side. They only seem to be available from the mfr at https://www.quickjack.de/ for European customers.

I believe you need the XLT variant for the extra length, although maybe you could use long 4x2s, as I posited before. Seems like a false economy to get the model that is only rated to 2.2 tons.

I had a long google for any solution around the "few hundred" price point that makes it easier to lift the car, but found nothing - it's trolley jack / bottle jack / ramp / jackstand, or a four-figure sum.

I will also be using ramps and a trolley jack, and I'll put the money towards the paint job!

I intend to use the "blocks of wood" mod: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ck-xjs-167468/

I looked at options and ended up making a set, they have been painted now and i am looking at using an airbag to lift and lower the ramps.
Very pleased with them and park the car on the after use. I like having the car at this height and level.

How do you get the car on and off the ramps?

Dukejag 05-24-2020 01:34 AM

The ramps pivot on the front supports, which are bolted down. I use a jack under the middle support, plan is to replace this with an air bag from a truck that will lift 3 ton which has travel from 120mm - 420mm. Plan is to bolt it to the underside of the lift and place it on a bottom plate for support. Time will tell.

When I built the lifting support I used left over material from work, what I did not realise that it is too high when the ramps are down, the XJS is low, hence it is so far forward for clearance. I have to drive the car right to the front then I can jack it up.
I usually push it back over the supports once lifted, I can lower it without moving it forward. I am getting the air bag from China... fingers crossed. But it will make it go up and down easy as.. well that is the plan.
But over all I love these ramps.

Hi Duke

Great Job! and I've seen Pro ones of the same design on YouTube, so I reckon the Airbag idea will work really well

Apart from your Freezer presumably Full of Ice Cream (Lol)

I'm loving your 'Shot Blast Cabinet' a little bit too much!

Do you know the CFM or Horsepower of the Compressor you are using, as I have an overwhelming desire to get one of these

egovreau 07-19-2020 01:15 AM

I've been looking into this as well.

Quick Jack has the BL-5000SLX and the BL-5000EXT. If the SLX is just barely too short, then the EXT should work fine, no?

jag-reflex 07-19-2020 08:43 AM

That was my thought. Never proved it though..maybe you'll be the one?

RickE 07-19-2020 08:49 AM

I have a standard Quick Jack and bought the extenders. It works great for the XJS. I always add jack stands before getting under the car.
