Super low mileage 1986 XJSC
Hello
I have a client with a low mileage 1987 XJSC - Bordeaux Red with tan interior. Its at 25,000 miles, 1 owner, garaged its entire life, dirty but rust free and immaculate under the dust!. It hasnt been driven much in the past 5 years and would instantly need tires/a tuneup/ and a battery. Has the hard top, soft top looks like new. Whats a fair price on something like this? |
The XJSC is a harder sell. At least it is a red and not “Oyster”. Bringatrailer regularly get $15k+ for convertibles but they had two XJSCs only make $8k. I’d take any offer nearing $6k. The low miles aren’t terribly relevant if the car hasn’t be recommissioned. Making that car road worthy is more than throwing tires on it. |
As some of us know all too well, getting an old jag road worthy and reliable after sitting for many years can/will cost thousands of dollars. 25,000 miles is good as far as the engine is concerned but anything suspension/rubber related will have to be renewed to fetch top dollar. A lot of people weren't fond of the xj-sc because they thought it ruined the lines of the coupe. Personally I think they are fascinating and would like to own one someday perhaps.
Anyway, without pictures and more information it's hard to say, but if the paint & interior are immaculate and it runs and drives then 6k sounds about right for a car that will need a lot of mechanical TLC to get roadworthy. |
I've had 2 XJSC's and they were great cars.
Similar to the set up of the Triumph Stag and non of the complexity of electro-hydraulic systems for the roof. One had the rear seats and one had the lockers. Very underrated cars in my opinion and I quite fancy another one. |

The XJSC is more desirable than the convertible for two reasons : rarity, and the greater structural rigidity which makes it free from the scuttle shake that plagues the full convertible. I’ve owned both, and the driving experience in the XJSC is just so much better. It’s also lighter, so performance is a bit livelier. |
If you are lucky enough you can also get a rear hardtop section to replace the soft top in the winter which makes it even more flexible as a year round driver.
Unless you live somewhere where you get 12 feet of snow every winter of course! |

go along to http://xjs-soft-tops.com. there are cabriolet experts there. If you give them your vin they may be able to tell you some history of your car.Look in the gutter of your boot/trunk there will be a body number. they will register your car as they want to know where all the surviving cabbys are. best of luck eddie |
