Default XK/XKR Production # response from Jaguar USA

Hello Forum members:

I asked Jaguar USA to provide production numbers of the XK/XKR's so we have an idea of what was built from 2008 to present (2013). Nicole my contact at Jaguar responded with the following. Here is her complete response.

Hope this helps all interested parties.

Case Number:7947634

Thank you for contacting Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. As per our conversation and your emails, the following information I have researched for you.

Initially, you had inquired the number of XK and XKR coupes vs. convertibles produced during 2008-2013 years. The following information was provided:

XK Conv. 33.17%
XK Coupe 22.08%
XKR Conv. 23.92%
XKR Coupe 18.72%
XKR-S Conv. 0.66%
XKR-S Coupe 1.45%

In regards to your follow up question regarding the production number to your XKR Portfolio Edition Convertible based on your VIN, I am advised that these vehicles were not specifically numbered coming off the line. With that said, on your window sill there should be a sticker that shows the month and year of production, for example "11/2008". This would give you an idea whether your vehicle is an early or late build of 2009.

I hope this information serves you well and if I can be of additional assistance, please let me know. Hopefully you can still appreciate the rarity of your XKR!

Have a happy and healthy holiday!

Best Regards,

Nicole Georgiadis

We now can say that the Jaguar XKR-S Coupe & Convertible is a very rare Jaguar indeed.

Interesting.

I would have expected the ratio of convertibles to coupes to be higher. For the X100 the ratio was closer to 2:1.

Those numbers sound quite surprising. Those figures show that total production of XKs and XKRs and a few XKRs are 55% and 45% respectively? Even the Coupe ratio is surprising....58% Verts to 42% Coupes? Is this worldwide or just the US?

Boca:

In my conversations with Jaguar USA I asked for USA production numbers, so these are USA percentage numbers.

Actual sales figures are listed below.

Not as many sold as previously thought.

I have also posted below the sales figures from the above link.

These figures should provide an idea of how rare the Jaguar XK and XKR's are in the USA and Canada.

For our Canadian friends, you own a very rare car in Canada.

Fantastic information! Thank you. Combining the information in this and your subsequent post, it appears as if there have been only 266 XKR-S sales in the US since they were launched in the fall of 2011.....rare indeed!

I think the special editions and of course the XKR-S are "rare" cars. Using Richzak's info, I come up with close to 8,000 Coupes since 2007 which in my eyes is a lot of cars on the road, but certainly a lot rarer than Porsche Boxsters. I wonder if the production numbers for Coupes versus Verts changed in the later years (2010-2013).

Jaguar as a brand is a limited production car. Look at forum membership to get an idea. 22,000 members on this site going back to classic cars from the 50s. 198,000 members on clublexus which started production in 1990. Of course Toyota/Lexus is mass produced. A better comparison would be Porsche, almost 30,000 members on Planet 9.

The "hot" car for Porsche has been the new re-designed 2014 Porsche Cayman which started selling in April 2013. There was no 2013 MY Cayman. With the new re-design the official MY went from 2012 to 2014.

The increase in sales of this car from 2012 to the 2014 MY is enormous with 3043.... 2014 Caymans sold just since April 2013 compared to only 180 ...2012 MY Porsche Cayman. December figures have not been posted as the month end is not over for Cayman sales.

2617...Porsche 2013 Boxsters have been sold since April 2013, vs 3043...Porsche Cayman vs 800...Jaguar XK/XKR/XKR-S automobiles.

This number of 3043 ....2014 Caymans sold compares to 800....2013 XK/XKR/XKR-S models sold during the same time frame, April to November 2013.

Keep in mind the Porsche Cayman is priced from 25% to 40% less than the Jaguar XK/XKR/XKR-S, depending on Base vs S model for the Porsche Cayman.

Thus the Jaguar XK/XKR/XKR-S is quite rare compared to the Porsche Cayman.

No wonder people stop to look, and have no idea what the Jaguar XK/XKR/XKR-S really is. It's like owning a rare coin.

I love it. An Aston was always on my bucket list, but this worked out just fine and even better because I can drive this car!

Took my XK to the detailer on the way home this evening so that it was clean before it went into winter storage. I pushed the limit with a major snow storm to hit Toronto overnight. The two young kids that were working on it started taking pics with their phone cameras once they were finished. Then the one kid drove it out for me and said to me, "what a car". This is a high end detailer and I suspect they get plenty of expensive cars in for cleaning. I think it's the rarity, combined with the car's simple beauty that causes these reactions. There's not another car in the $100k range that I'd trade mine for and mine sure isn't worth that much.

I think I am going to call Jaguar on Monday and see what the US sales figure percentage breakdown is for the MY2009 XJ's.

The 2009 XJ Portfolio was made in limited numbers (140 worldwide) in only two colors - Astral Gold and Celestial Black. Curious to know how many of the Astral Gold Portfolio's they made, as that could be even rarer.

Michael:

It is doubtful that they will have the information on colors as they don't have the info on the number that car was produced i.e #25 out of the 140.

They will probably have the percentage.

Reference the XJ.....MY2009.....1161 Sold in USA......77 Sold in Canada
