2007 XK maintenance
 

Ok Guys,

I jumped back into the Jag world after my 2010 XFR, and my 2014 XFR.

I now have a 2007 XK convertible with 16,000 miles on it that I just bought. One owner. Last service in 3/2017 included Radiator flush, Brake fluid change. Battery changed in 2013. Drives like a new car.

I am going to store it in Florida and plan to drive it <500miles/year.

So...what maintenance would you guys do? Nothing to follow as this is a 10yr old car with so few miles.

I'm doing battery, Oil Change for sure.
Fuel injectors?
Differential?
Timing belt?
Plugs?

Nice looking car. XKs love to be Driven. 500 miles per year, IMO is just not enough mileage.

Transmission Drain, Filter and Pan! Doesn't matter only 16k miles. Also consider the Diff fluid, power steering fluid and coolant change. Ten+ years is quite a bit for fluids.

+1 on changing fluids that haven't been done yet.


No timing belt - chain driven
Plugs - I'd leave them till they fail
Injectors - Are you driving or transporting to Florida? I'd probably just run some cleaner through, but with 16k miles, probably don't need it.

I always change fluids on a new (to me) Jaguar. This covers anything that may have been missed and gives me a baseline for future scheduled maintenance.

Check the manufactured date on each tyre sidewall. Even with only 16K miles, I wouldn't like to be investigating the performance with old rubber.

Battery maintainer or even disconnect it if you aren't going to be driving weekly. Florida I'd make sure the leather is moist. Sun / humidity and heat are hard on it. Fluids as other have said.


Otherwise drive it and see what needs attention.

Welcome to the XK world. Considering the service history the only thing I would do is an oil change which I do annually unless you are a high mileage driver. So put some miles on it now just to get the initial enjoyment .

If you change the coolant, it would also be wise to change the water outlet containing the thermostat.

I'd change out all fluids. and even consider a coolant flush redo if all they did was a radiator flush.
Time is still your enemy as much, if not more than mileage. Per manual or product manufacturer, irrespective of mileage:
Brakes every 2 years
Coolant every 5 years
Oil- twice per year in your case
Transmission fluid every 8 years
Differential - Jaguar says filled for life - so change it along with transmission fluid

Gasoline - here's what may cause you problems @ 500 miles per year. Gasoline (and here comes Mikey to tell us I'm wrong:-) has a short shelf life. I know you'll need a fuel additive, just can't recommend frequency.

Windshield washer fluid - OK this one can sit

If you can, go through all the suspension bushings and make sure they are tip top.

Since the car is new to you change all the fluid as recommended above.
These engines do not have a timing belt so no worries there. Injectors need nothing and usually last the lifetime of the car. Spark plugs are good for 100K miles like all modern cars.

If your driving 500 ish miles a year that's at least two tanks of fuel so there's no worries about the gas 'going off'. Fill the tank just before you store it to minimize exposure to the atmosphere.

Thanks guys! So my local Sports shop (gator motor sports in Indianapolis...Lotus dealer) did the full inspection. Looks like all the fluids have already been changed and the tires were new! Only thing I did was change the oil, put a new battery (Current from 2013) and had them wax it (they advised against ceramic since the finish was like new). Looks like I am ready for Florida. Agree--500 miles per year way to low! Now all I have to do is move to Florida and retire :~) to drive it more. I did take ya'lls advice and purchased a Ctek 4.3 Trickle Charger for storage. I like the comment about a gas stabilizer. I do that now when I store my Maserati for the winter, seems to work.
