Best colors on XK/XKR
 

I' ready to pull the trigger on 2010+ XKR. Its personal taste, but some colors look better on certain cars than others........But what color? Black looks good, but I don't like. I'm gravitating toward the dark blue metallic, dark red metallic which are not easy to find. Not sure about the silver/grey ones. Definitely not white on these for me (my white XJ looks great.......)
Does the preferred color change on vert. vs/ coupe on these?
I know it can get stupid chasing some colors vs. others on these cars.

I found during my search that Blue , Green and Red were the hardest colors to find. They are out there but you need to search for them. If you just want to buy a Jag then the easiest colors to find are Black , White , Silver or Gray. So unless you find a jewel in the standard colors then hold out and one of the "colors" of your choice will show up.

I searched for a indigo blue 4.2 L for an entire year but couldn't find one that was a one or two owner car with low mileage for what I considered a reasonable price(21k or under). When a white 2008 popped up that was a one owner 35k car for 19000 I bought it. White was not what I was looking for but when buying an 11 year old car I feel that the most important thing is to get a good quality example. One owner low mileage doesn't guarantee trouble-free driving but so far I'm happy and have grown to love the color. Classy but still sporty in my opinion. I also wanted the caramel interior.

No such thing as perfect color...unless you are buying new.
These cars are so limited that you wont find everything you are looking for in one car.

The most suited color for a coupe in my opinion is vapour grey. Just saw one driving on I95 from Palm Beach to Pompano, absolutely took my breath away. Had a continental je ne sai qoi to it. The location had an effect on it too.
Then 2 days later I was stuck behind a black one in Georgia for 2 hours. It just looked so rich. There was a formal elegance to the black. Like a black suit. Then I was able to make a comparison.

The blue was my first choice. It is as rare as hen's teeth. But subsequently found it not to look so good in the sun. The black is simply timeless.

I've only ever owned red cars, so when I was doing my nationwide search for an X150, I used the search engine filters to only look for red convertibles.
After I bought my Radiance Red XK (no good quality red XKRs, in my price range, were on the market at the time, and I didn't have the patience to search for more than a week or two), I found there was a color called Emerald Fire.
That's a drop dead gorgeous color, IMHO, and had I known about it, I would have searched for that color as well, although that seems to be a much rarer color.
With a 'vert, the interior color becomes pretty important, as you see it all when the top is down (which should be all the time, right?).
I've got the caramel interior on my 'vert, which is ok, but would have much preferred the lighter 'oyster', but again, that is a much rarer color, and you are at the mercy of the original car buyer's choices.
If you are willing to wait, select your desired color combos, and hope one shows up in a nice package.

I liked the black but in the end polishing every day didn't appeal to me, got liquid silver with black interior . As far as red goes , it is so common on every other make I didn't want it and just finished with a red corvette and red 70 Buick convertible.
I wanted the black but was to lazy. lol Your car your color buy what you want.

But colour taste is individual...to my eye the only colours that are not the best on this beautiful body are white and silver - and for the same reason: they do not show the curves to advantage.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm repulsed by BRG. Any green, actually, unless it is because Chlorophyll.

Agree on adding BRG to my list. Which is darker shade of red, the Emerald Fire, or Radiance Red?

I know BRG is classic but doesn't appeal to me either , reminds me of old volvo's for some reason.

Only my second BRG car in over forty years. Usually go for shades of blue (my last 2007 XK was Indigo Blue) but the new shade of BRG used on the last XK's and the F-Type is an unusual colour. It looks almost black in some light but has an amazing depth of metallic in others.

All in all, colour choice is very subjective and I'd put specification higher up the preference list.

Emerald Fire is fairly rare green[b].

It looks spectacular on early 4.2 XKR's, it might based on what I see in books been available in 2010, or not.

It is a metallic green with silver flakes, but the flakes are highly directional in when they really pop.

It is the same as Jaguar Racing Green from the F1 cars, just with silver flakes instead of gold.

Ebony/Caramel is better than Ebony/Charcoal.

Ultimate Black/Charcoal is better than Ultimate Black/Caramel.

The way the flakes will highlight will give profile to even subtle curves of the body.

I'm just not sure a 2010 XKR was made with it.

It wasn't popular, and I know it was dropped for 2011.

Most common to find it on 2007's.

I would also say that interior/exterior color need to go together.

Ebony/Caramel looks a lot better than Ebony/Charcoal.

Ultimate Black/Charcoal looks a lot better than Ultimate Black/Caramel.

Wow it sold for $25000. Thats high for a 07 with 40k miles.

I am getting conflicting results for vapour grey- I may have the name wrong. Picture below is the color I saw. Not the eggplant grey that other pictures are showing.

Link looks like Slate Grey to me... ^^^ pic above is Lunar Grey.... Vapor Grey has a little bit of champagne coloring to it, maybe even a hint of red in it...

When I went looking it was for anything but black. I ended up with Porcelain, which I love.

That looks like a 2009 Portfolio to me, which would make it Shadow Gray.

Very rare, unique to the Portfolio.

Several other details really make the 2008/2009 Portfolios pop.

I love white on 2012+ cars.

But do not really like it on the older ones.
