Yeah that would be really bad. I cant find my factory air intake setup and think I may have thrown it away, but hoping not just in case I need it. The mechanic is going to do a few other things later this summer to beef up my engine for me he said and Dan Henderson who is local to me and a member on this forum is going to beef up my exhaust just a little bit. Other than that I think my car will be completely done very soon unless another string of bad luck happens.

I have good news and stupid news... Lets start with the good.
I talked to the mechanic and he said all test seem fine and its just a coolant leak. He is 99% sure that's the only problem. He will have it done for me this thursday.
Now the stupid part. Apparently our cars do NOT like custom air intakes or at least they are way picky with air intakes. As soon as he popped off my aftermarket air intake the car ran fine. So.... he is going to fabricate me a new and better air intake that works 100% with the car.
He tested the oil and there was zero coolant/water in it, he said it was just really nasty oil and needs changed badly.
Now I am a little confused as my intake has been on the car for awhile and ran just fine in my garage many times with the new intake before it started the leak. So IDK.. very strange to me but he says that was the issue, literally showed me by unplugging my 3" intake hose and it ran like new, plugged it back in and it started blowing the white smoke and shut itself off.

Well, that’s really great news and frankly not surprised. I was more perplexed by your original diagnosis as these cars are pretty bullet proof. As far as the intake, done properly they work just fine, I have a custom dual setup on mine. Can you share pictures of yours? Honestly though I doubt you really need one as your car is both a show car and a naturally aspirated motor so there is little benefit to a modified intake.
As far as maintainance, yes all fluids and maintenance intervals should be followed for best longevity and least worry for future failures. Good catch on the oil and while you are at it should probably check the rest.

Yes he is going to check all my hoses, fluids and everything. My car had 3800 miles since its last oil change, I was going to change it at 4000 so it was close. The dealer I bought it from told me to change it every 5000 or so.

I have no idea what ideas he has for it later this summer on squeezing some horsepower out of it but I trust him as Ive had dozens of people in this city all tell me to only go to him. Ill search through my pics and see if I can find any with my air intake. Ill for sure post pictures of whatever air intake idea he comes up with.

So the replacement tubing is causing unbalanced air flow through the meter's sample ports and the processor got confused, nice. Ask him to rotate the MAF housing in the duct if possible before condemning the whole works. I've had luck in the past finding a sweet spot on 5.0 Mustangs. You could see it in the A/F ratio meter as you clocked the meter to different positions.

This is what he said when I asked him if he checked the pickup tube in the oil pan and to recheck gasket install..
" We have checked everything. Although tube screen was a little dirty it wasnt clogged up unfortunately. The way these gaskets are designed you cant put them on backwards. Only thing I have not looked at yet and I need to tear down the engine for is this rod that goes from the oil pump to chain drive. Ill do this before I find another engine block. "

+1 on that. It sounds like an oil pump issue (meaning he is saying there is no oil pressure). Engines usually starve for oil if there is a pump issue or blocked oil galleries (asside from sludge or no/low oil level). Galleries can be rotted out rather than replacing the block and pumps are replace/repairable.

Ok, total emotional rollercoaster. My car is now fixed. 2 hours after telling me my engine block is bad I get a call from my friend who seen my car sitting outside and working. I immediately left work and went straight to the place that has my car. I get there and I get a ton of apologies as he called the wrong guy about his engine. It was a guy with a audi who had the issue and he thought my cell number was that guy. So my car was done and fixed and I got a few hundred taken off the price totalling $350 for the fix. It was a new coolant hose.
Now my air intake that they modified is still being a *******, car is throwing up codes for it. So I am going to use my stock one (I found it under a bunch of mess in the garage) and leave it at that.
I drove the car today for an hour, so far everything is good except the engine light for the air intake.

Wow, almost like getting a call from your doctor that your tests indicate you only have a month to live then finding out later it was someone elses test! What a relief but then you realize the other guy is now going through what you just experienced. Bummer! (not that far out as it happened to a nephew's cancer labs last year....tears, cheers, tears.)
