Old style Wood Interior vs new 2017 models
 

In looking at the new 2017 Jaguar models, it is clearly noted that Jaguar has dropped the classic style "wood interiors" for a more modern non-wood interior.

While many owners like the XK/XKR interiors as most of the XK/XKR owners have, I think this is a big change in the 2017 models across the board and the classic Jaguar wood interiors will no longer be seen.

It brings the Jaguar brand in a totally new modern dimension.

Is that necessarily good? I haven't driven my 2002XKR in several months as my son has been using it. Today, I cleaned it (heaven forbid he should ever do it), and took it for the day. My 2010 has piano black and the fake carbon fiber or aluminum trim. I can't tell you how special it felt driving around with all of the burl walnut, radio and HVAC push buttons, and just a general feeling of opulence. Sure it bottoms out over the slightest dips, humps, and bumps, but boy do you feel great driving it looking out over that beautifully shaped hood. There is something to be said for tradition as well as modernism.

Sounds like 2016 will be the latest Jag I will own....

Interesting. Why is plastic considered any more modern than wood. The wood finishes available today are outstanding. And my new italian furniture happens to expose wood in those areas which catch the eye.

Of course the Hyundais don't use wood either;-)

The new Jags continue to have wood trim as part of the available packages, even in the F Pace and XE, but not in all markets . I don't think you need fear a loss of wood trim; younger buyers, however, are tending to opt for a non-wood interior. Not me; for me a Jaguar interior is all about beautiful wood and leather. My XK has both and so does my X-Type.

Yes, even the XE can have wood optioned and it looks pretty good. I dont know whether the diehards will be able to get their walnut burl though.

I'm not a younger buyer but I'd prefer piano black or a very subtle grain in the XE, and no wood at all in the F type. The only car I liked wood in was my first XF - it was ivory/oyster and walnut, it was tastefully done and looked exquisite. My XKR had warm charcoal and walnut, but there was way too much wood IMO.

I am not sure that there can be "too much wood" in a Jaguar...but just to repeat, you can definitely get wood trim in the latest Jaguars; after the note I wrote above, I went to the Jaguar Canada website and configured a new XE Prestige (that was fun) with "figured ebony" trim. Nice. You can also have wood trim in the F Pace, the XF, the XJ...the only one without wood trim is the F-Type. Jaguar thinks that wood is out of keeping with a true sports model, just as the E Type did not have wood trim.

Yes, if you look at some of Fair2's posts in the XE forum, you'll see his XE which was optioned with wood. Looks great.

No one that knows me would call me a "tradition-loving" person. Yet, I feel that genuine wood accents with fine leather inside a Jag is as natural as breathing air. Applying exquisite quality real wood speaks of craftsmanship that looks down dismissively on cheap molded plastics or equally cheap stamped aluminum panels. I truly dislike the extensive, plain aluminum trim in my wife's XF. Real wood is just one of the differences that separates a Jaguar from a Toyota Corolla. I would not have it any other way in my XKR.

For me this interior is stunning....and the wood is the finishing touch.

Absolutely agree! (Looks just like mine from that angle, except I don't have the ACC button on the steering wheel).

I think it comes down to trying to lower the base price of a Jaguar, it used to be everything was standard, either you could afford the car, or you can't. There really weren't a lot of options that added $$$ to the price tag. Its these options that Porsche use to make massive $$$. For $40K on top of the base price of a 911, you can get have a nice looking leather and wood interior, as well as a few other options.

Guess I'm "Old Fashioned" but for me a Jaguar will forever be associated with luxurious hides and fine woods. Aluminum and carbon fibre while trendy, will not stand the test of time. Just my 2 cents!

Should Rolls Royce and Bentley get rid of their wood interiors also so they can be trendy and modern?

I'm only 31 years old and with the way the world is going, I sometimes feel like I'm in my 70's. So sad.

Wood and polished metal/chrome make a Jag... a Jag.

Actually, I thought the XK did not have enough wood. Where's the wood on the doors?

Only the 07 did not have wood on the doors (but mine does now) - the wood is on the window switch panel - your 07 had a metal finish there.

Unless you're going for the 'sinister look' (double black, black wheels, piano black interior trim) I think a Jag looks best dressed in wood ... my preference is burl walnut. Shame you can't still get the half-wood steering wheel that Jag offered in 2007.
