Weird wire from trunk

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all, just bought a Jag XKR 2010 and am loving it so far!

I see a cable coming out of the trunk, but it is not mentioned in the manual. I've tried taking it back by removing the battery compartment cover, but it does directly connect to the battery.

Couldn't trace it fully without removing more of the inside boot lining, but before I do I wanted to know if anyone came across this?

Does anyone know what it could be from the pic? My initial guess was a leftover trickle charger cable?

Thanks!

That is a connector for a CTEK battery charger/maintainer, which everyone here will tell you is something between a wise investment and an absolute necessity.

+1. There are many threads about the CTEK brand of battery maintainers. They're available on Amazon and are highly recommended since our XKRs are very sensitive to weak batteries. I prevent electrical gremlins by keeping my Jags on battery maintainers. The latest model is the CTEK MUS 4.3 but many forum members have the 3300, which is the same as the Jaguar branded accessory sold by your dealer's parts department for a lot more than on Amazon. Obviously, the previous owner forgot to remove that pigtail when he sold the car. That pigtail fits both of the above mentioned models.

Stuart

P.S. Those are USA model numbers. You didn't post your location. CTEK model numbers vary world-wide. See their website.

Hi,
WELCOME to one of the best active Jag sites around. Please bless us with your location and pic of your gentle giant. Who knows, there may be another member crawling about in your "hood"
Yes, it appears you have the remnants of a trickle charger. Now, as mentioned, make use of it.
Happy trails.......

Thanks all and thanks for the welcome! Many more posts to come!

I use my car twice a week, I'll get the charger, but shouldn't twice a week use be enough to ensure a topped up battery? I drive for a couple of hours each time.

It's too easy for me to not hook 're up to life support when not in use. I think many here will suggest the same. These cats like their bottle.

Welcome to the forum Firebreather, now the mystery is solved it would be a good time to post an intro in the new members section.

Thanks will do!

Welcome to the forum. As others have mentioned put your car on a CTek. Your cost on Amazon or Ebay should be no more than $70 for the unit. The ongoing cost is about 30 seconds per drive to unplug when going and replugging when parking. You will avoid a lot of issues. If you need further convincing check out the battery or Ctek threads on this very useful forum.

Looks like you have the CTEK extension or the CTEK connector is already connected to the battery posts.

The CTEK 4.3 MUS 8 Step Smartcharger is available from Amazon.com for under $56.00 whch is a screaming bargain.

Here's my setup on my CTEK......with this setup there is no need to open the trunk lid to make the connection.

I simply plug into the connector and it takes about 3 secs. Whenever the XKR is pulled into the garage the CTEK always gets connected.

Also in your photo it looks like the CTEK is being jumped within the wiring cable. You need to make sure it is not spliced into a power wire. It needs to go directly to the battery terminal on the positive (red wire from CTEK) and the black CTEK wire to a ground (Negative) since you have a 2010 MY Jaguar.

Cheers, that is a very neat solution!

Will def get the charger and trace back the wires!

How to choose a CTEK charger.......
There are so many models, what is the "important" criteria?
There 4 stage, 8 stage and models in between.......my head hurts!

I drive between two to four days a week. I have a trickle charger but I never use it unless I leave the car for more than a couple of weeks. Even then I sometimes don't bother. I don't know what all the fuss is about. I bet 90% of XK owners (who aren't on this forum) don't have one, and don't have a problem.

I always lock my doors. Sometimes it can shut down improperly and the door lock seems to force a standby process. The only time I have had battery issues is when I left it sitting for two weeks with the doors unlocked.
