1999 XK8 - Restricted Performance - Coil Issues
Would appreciate the benefit of some wisdom..... here's the problem
After an hour driving at speed, restricted performance light comes on and car feels like it is misfiring. It will clear and return intermittently as a continue my journey. My Jag specialist, tells me it is a coil problem, breaking down based on the codes. Problem is that he cannot recreate it and as my 1999 model only has 2pins and no indicator as to which coil is breaking down, I need to wait till it fails completely until I get it fixed. Given I am driving it reasonable journeys every week, its driving me nuts. Are there any other ways of identifying which of the 8 coils are breaking down before complete failure? How much would it cost to replace all 8? Appreciate your advice Thanks |
I would imagine you still have all 8 original coils - depending on the mileage, I would say they have served their purpose. If you use aftermarket parts, you can replace all 8 for about $300.

Check your battery is in great shape (rather than "starts car OK").
